I have been terrible about blogging lately…I have been in full-on school mode and doing some personal photography projects(which I will post soon) and have been slackin in the bloggin department. To get myself kickstarted I will use my students as inspiration…I have some incredible artists as students and I am constantly amazed at their work. Our first semester recently ended and I like to make a slideshow of favorites after each semester…so…here is a selection of student work from the first semester of this year. Please excuse the funky techno music, it was one of the few choices. If you’re interested in making your own slideshow like this, check out animoto.
We Are Union – Clubs & Activities 2009
This year we have started something new at the school I work at. My students and I have photographed our athletes for our schedule/calendar for each athletic season…but this year we wanted to feature all of the school’s clubs & activities as well. It was a long project, with my students and I doing 5 separate photo shoots, but the results are very cool. I tried to have each group do something interesting with props, costumes or something related to their group. The students had a great time with it and the photos have been very popular. Below are some of my favorites. If you want to see the full collection, you can click here.

Ralph Eugene Meatyard Workshop – 10-31-09
Over the Halloween weekend I attended a photographic workshop based around the work of Ralph Eugene Meatyard, a well known photographer who had a rather strange body of work considered challenging and creepy(see some here). We did a night shoot at Oaks Park, and then did a daytime shoot at the Bybee House on Sauvie Island. The workshop focused on using blur techniques to achieve an otherworldly quality to photographs. It was a lot of fun and I think I captured some very cool images. Fitting for Halloween…

Angela & Skee – Hood River Wedding
A few weeks ago I photographed the gorgeous wedding of Angela & Skee held at a pear orchard near Parkdale, which is just outside of Hood River. It was a beautiful day…and a perfect late summer evening. Angela got ready at a local B&B and then headed to the orchard for the ceremony. The ceremony was unique with Angela & Skee standing in the middle of a large circle made up of all their friends & family. A very cool band, Hot Club Sandwich also played at the beginning of the ceremony and played later at the reception. Their two dogs, Kenai & Cooper were also a very important part of the day! After the ceremony we found some great locations around the orchard for portraits of the Bride & Groom. The reception was beautifully decorated featuring handmade decorations, fresh apple juice squeezed by boys at the wedding, lots of pears, and pies made by friends & family from hand picked berries. The ceremony and reception totally fit Angela & Skee’s personalities which is always so great to see. It was truly an awesome wedding, and we got some great photos.

December 10, 2009 - 11:26 pm - I saw your PDN submission and that shot with your tilt shift blows my mind! Great stuff man keep it up! This is a random shout out.
October 13, 2009 - 11:09 am - Absolutely beautiful. Angela looks so ethereal in the shot where she is sitting on the couch with the light coming through the background. There are too many really great shots to comment on them all. Gorgeous photography for a gorgeous couple in a gorgeous location!!!
October 12, 2009 - 7:44 pm - dang sean well done! This has to be my favorite of yours to date. The trailer one just kills it.
Jen & Steven – The Nines & North Portland Wedding
Jen & Steven were married a few weeks ago and I was lucky enough to photograph their day. Jen got ready at one of my favorite places in town to take photos, The Nines Hotel. The rooms are awesome there and the lobby is very very cool. Jen & Steven had initially planned an outdoor ceremony at the Kenton Firehouse in North Portland, but due to the threat of rain all day they made the smart decision to make a last minute venue change for the ceremony and so it was held at the Celebration Tabernacle. The ceremony was unique and fit Jen and Steven perfectly and was officiated by Marky Kelly, who married my wife and I
After the ceremony it was on to the Kenton Firehouse for a lovely reception featuring some funny & embarrassing toasts, great food, a glass cake topper made by Jen (who’s a glass artist), and a great slideshow made by Jen & Steven documenting their travels together. Congrats again Jen & Steven!
